What is Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loans allow patrons to access books that are not available at the Bonfield Public Library.

The staff at the Bonfield Public Library are happy to help you navigate the new OCLC Discovery to Delivery system. Contact the library via email, telephone or in person for assistance

How Interlibrary Loan Works

Create an Interlibrary Loan Account

All accounts using the previous software platform (INFOntario/Zportal) are no longer valid.

All previous users must create a new interlibrary loan account using the current platform (OCLC D2D).

  • You will be prompted to either login or create an interlibrary loan account as soon as you make a request using the above link.

  • You will be setting your username and password for your interlibrary loan account. Be sure to make note of your username and password. The Library does not have access to your password but you can reset it if you can not remember your password.

Making a request

Patrons must sign up for Discovery to Delivery (OCLC D2D) using a valid Bonfield Public Library (BPL) card.

Submit a request for each item. Your account will be verified through email.

How to use Discovery to Delivery (D2D)

What you can you request

  • You can request any type of item, depending on availability and the policies of the lending library, but in general, DVDs, CDs, and other audiovisual materials are not available for interlibrary loan.

Types of materials you can't request

  • Items with circulating copies in Bonfield Public Library (exceptions for Book Clubs)

  • Material published in the last 12 months

  • Rare and fragile material, original manuscripts

  • Reference material

  • Newspapers and magazines

  • eBooks, eAudiobooks, online resources

How long it takes

  • Requests take approximately 1-2 weeks to fulfill by the loaning library. You will be contacted when the book is available for pick up at the Bonfield Public Library.

  • BPL canʼt guarantee an item will be received by a certain date.

  • BPL arenʼt able to accommodate rush requests.

Where you can pick up your item

  • You will be contacted when the book is available for pick up at the Bonfield Public Library.

Borrowing rules

  • You can have a maximum of 7 interlibrary loans at one time.

  • You must submit a separate request form for each title.

  • Loan periods are determined by the lending library and are usually 4 to 5 weeks. The due date will be printed on the book label and available on your account on D2D.

  • Items may be renewed if the lending library allows it. You must request a renewal 3 days before the item is due through D2D.

Returning Items

  • Return borrowed items to the Bonfield Public Library during regular business hours or place the item in the Drop box located outside of the Library main door.

Fees

  • Interlibrary loans are free unless the lending library charges for the loan. In that case, the fee will be passed along to you. You will be contacted about the fees prior to the order shipping.

  • If interlibrary loan materials are lost or damaged, you will have to pay the amount charged by the lending library.
